Credit Rating Agencies have received heavy criticism for their contributions to the economic crisis that started in 2007 and continues currently. Indeed, the Dodd-Frank Act now mandates tighter supervision of CRAs in the US. Separately, new efforts (such as Wikirating.com) seek to bypass traditional CRAs altogether.
