Kerling, Matthias, "Corporate Distress Diagnosis - An International Comparison", in Proc. Third Int. Conf. Neural Networks in the Capital Markets, A. N. Refenes, Y. Abu-Mostafa, J. Moody, and A. Weigend, Eds. London, UK, (October 1995), pp. 407-422.

Abstract: Diagnosing corporate distress is a classification problem. While using statistical methods like multivariate discriminant analysis is still state-of-the-art in practice, over the last few years a number of studies have investigated the application of artificial neural networks for this task. Some of our previous studies had analyzed French financial statements. This article will revise the early results using multiple network based on the multilayer perceptron. Furthermore the examination will be extended to US corporations for an international comparison.
